About the research paper… … it is hard to make it about seven pages long. I’d like to try it.
I watched Dollhouse from the beginning of the drama, and now I almost finish the first season. There are a lot of elements in this drama because dolls usually have different working environment. I want to talk about how people make a choice about their life. The Dollhouse Company make money by selling fancies, in another word, the company sells different choices that you cannot find in the real world. Rich people hire dolls to fix those imperfect places in their lives. You can get a perfect world if you can pay the bill. Most people chose to be dolls because they cannot find another choice in their lives. All these things happened around about how people make a choice, and how to face Hobson's choice situation. I know it is a very wide topic, but I will try to focus on one simple question.
For the examples’ part, I think I can find some famous people’s examples. They made choices in that moment, and that choice let them be famous. A lot of people have a poor situation, but their choices saved their lives. Walt Disney drew Mickey Mouse when he lived in basement. Hawking published his theories with two fingers. A lot of people have poor situation, but they made good choice about their future. I hope I can find some self-biographies in library, and see how those famous people made choice when they are in poor situation.
You seem to be saying that through the Dollhouse, the writers are arguing that people could make different choices and their life would be completely different as they make different choices.
ReplyDeleteThis argument is very timely since it relates to everybody, the rich, the poor, the teenagers, the old, etc. We are faced with all kind of choices every single day and how we make a decision really matters. Have you thought about making a contrast between those people who made a good choice and those who only cared themselves and eventually made a bad decision? You could also talk about how the environment could affect people’s decisions. A lot of people would compromise when they are at a really poor situation, like the dolls in the Dollhouse. I think this would be a nice aspect to focus on.

The main eveidence for this argument seems to be that the Dollhouse Company make money by selling different choices for people to decide that you cannot find in the real world. This argument is timely because poeple living in the modern world face a lot of situations to make a choice.Have you thought of connecting the choice of people with the environments they stay. Because people in different cirumstaces will make different decisions.Sometimes,temptation affects people's ideas in some degree.
